Fireworks In Hawaii Kai?

I just read;

For six years, it’s been Paige Altonn’s dream to have Fourth of July fireworks in her own community. Now, with the support of a newly formed Hawai’i Kai Chamber of Commerce, the Hawai’i Kai Neighborhood Board, a few community groups and several area businesses, she’s hoping to launch a fireworks display off Maunalua Bay by July 4, 2008. Hawai’i Kai is a flourishing, thriving community, but it’s not personable. I think it will be a great day, but we know we have a long way to go.  A side benefit, Altonn said, is the feeling of community that the fireworks will bring to Hawai’i Kai. With a thousand new homes built over the past five years and several hundred more in the pipeline, Altonn feels the community needs to be drawn together.

Hawaii Kai Chamber of Commerce Has Been Formed

The Hawaii Kai Chamber of Commerce is being formed to help support and facilitate community events and area businesses.   Go to the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce to learn more about the various Chambers in Hawaii .  The Hawaii Kai Chamber of Commerce is in it’s infant stages and doesn’t even have an office yet.

We will be virtual to start. Without any money, we can’t have an office.

New Condominium in Hawaii Kai?

We have all known that the vacant land on Hawaii Kai Dr. at the base of Mariner’s Ridge was going to be developed with condos, however, the plan may be a little different than what some had thought.  The developer’s plan to build a condominium up to 90 feet tall moved forward at the public hearing that was held.  The City Council Zoning Committee recommended approval for a zoning change that would move the height restriction on the parcel of land from between 40-60 feet, up to 90 feet.

Halona Blow Hole To Have Major Overhaul

The Halona Blow Hole, in Hawaii Kai will have major work done to repair the aging and deteriorating lookout, according to the Honolulu Advertiser.  The lower portion of the lookout was closed in 1997 and with the renovations, will once again allow visitors to get closer to the blow hole action.  This could cause for some traffic headaches around the construction site.  Lets hope it doesn’t hold things up too bad or there will be more people cutting through on Hawaii Kai Drive to Lunalilo Home Rd. during the renovations.  Read Halona lookout to get major overhaul for the full story.
