Hawaii Employment Info

As published in the Honolulu Advertiser, the state of  Hawaii’s unemployment rate dropped to 7 percent in July from 7.3 percent in June.  State and Federal jobs were created through funding from the Stimulus Package, though the state is looking to cut jobs to meet budget shortfalls.

 July unemployment numbers for Hawaii counties were as follows:

Honolulu’s unemployment rate on a non-seasonally adjusted rate was 6.1 percent.

The Big Island was the only major island with a double digit rate. It came in at 10.4 percent for the month.

Kaua’i’s rate was 9.8 percent during the month, while Maui Island’s rate was 9.2 percent.

Moloka’i and Lana’i continued to have rates above 10 percent.

• Big Island: 11.5 percent, up 5.5 percentage points.
