Oahu Property Taxes On The Rise?

arrow

The Honolulu City Council voted to raise property taxes (and other taxes and fees), now approval is up to the Mayor.

The property tax rate for homes would go to $3.42 per $1,000 valuation, up from $3.29. A family owning and living in a house valued at $600,000 would pay $1,717 next year, up from the $1,611 it paid this year, according to the Department of Budget and Fiscal Services.

Is there a county property tax in addition to the Honolulu property tax?

The $1,600 tax for a $600,000 property is about 1/3 of what we pay in eastern NC!

The Island of Oahu is Honolulu County, so the Honolulu property tax is the county property tax. There is no other property tax. That is a good point. Even with a raise in property taxes, Oahu still has some of the lowest property taxes in the country.
