Light Rail Mass Transit Plan On Oahu To Be Reviewed
Here is another hotly discussed topic on Oahu. How will the increased traffic concerns be addressed for Oahu’s Leeward and Central residents? The answer is a light rail system from Kapolei to Honolulu. The decision was made to move forward, and paying for the transit system has caused our Genral Excise Tax (GET) to increase from 4% to 4.5%. After the increase in the GET was approved, the next question was where will the light rail start, what path will it take and where will it end. The best scenario was to start in Leeward Oahu, go past Kapolei, split at Pearl City and have one leg go to the airport and the other leg go straight to Honolulu and stop at UH. This of course became way too expensive, so now we have dialed down version. Start in Kapolei and not split on its way to Honolulu and not go as far as UH. So what will the final outcome be and when will it be done? Who knows! Your guess is as good as mine.
