10,000 Pancakes On Fathers Day
The Hawaii Kai Lions Club every fathers day cooks up roughly 10,000 pancakes for it’s only fundraiser of the year. The money earned goes to a long list of great community projects the Lions Club helps with: Paint curbs, buildings and help with carnivals at Koko Head, Kamiloiki and Haha’ione elementary schools and Kaiser High School; donate books to the Hawai’i Kai Library; build and install benches in front of the post office, on school campuses and at bus stops; host the annual Lunalilo Home Christmas party and help organize the annual Christmas parade; and help with the Hawai’i Food Bank drive, beach park cleaning, the annual Koko Head District Park Easter Egg Hunt and the Eyeglass Recovery Program.
The Fathers Day Breakfast takes nearly 3 months to plan and about 80 people to cookand serve the community. What goes into the annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Hawai’i Kai Lion’s Club:
• Seven griddles
• 540 pounds of pancake mix
• 14,400 sausage links
• 7,500 eggs
• 50 pounds of rice
• 57 cases of juice
• 24 cases of milk
• 3,600 single-serving containers of pancake syrup
• 6,344 pats of butter
