Honolulu Jobless Rate for September

Honolulu’s jobless rate continues to be much better than the national average and is fairing much better than the outer islands as well.

Honolulu’s jobless rate was 6.3 percent in September, up from 6 percent in August, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  The jobless rate was up from 4.1 percent in September 2008.  The national unemployment rate in September was 9.5 percent, up from 6 percent in September 2008, and down slightly from August.

Hawaii as a state came in at 7.2%.  Here is the breakdown by islands:
Oahu’s non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate rose to 6.3 percent from 6.0 percent
Maui’s to 9.5 percent from 9.1 percent
Hawaii island’s to 10.8 percent from 10.3 percent.
Kauai’s remained at 9.6 percent
Molokai’s slipped to 13.9 percent from 14.6 percent
Lanai’s to 11.1 percent from 11.8 percent.
